AbstractIn this work we demonstrate the capabilities of genetic algorithms for the optimisation of the efficiency of a satellite FDMA link, that is maximising the number of simultaneous connections through the transponder. To this aim we propose to use genetic algorithms. The first step is to determine configurations optimised with respect to the Intermodulation Products (IMPs) generated by the non-linear amplifier onboard the satellite. Then, our target is to refine the specifications in order to determine the carrier configuration in compliance with some possible requirements occurring during the network operation. To this aim, one or more target functions that reflect the specifications are defined. The task of the genetic algorithms is to determine a carrier configuration at a pre-established distance from the target result. We also compare the results of our approach with those obtained by means of well-known deterministic algorithms.
