Abstract | This deliverable concerns the research on enhanced encoding techniques to be used for the compression of the video portion of Digital Cinema (DC) sequences, with a special attention paid to the inter-frame compression techniques. A huge bit rate reduction is required in order to convey high quality video over low-speed wired/wireless links to the final exhibition sites: this is a particular stringent requirement for live feeds. Some specific characteristics of DC sequences have been considered, such as the dynamic range, the colour space format, the frame rate, and a comparison between existing codecs and novel compression techniques is made. The deliverable is published at month 24, and no hardware prototypes are to be prepared; the software tools and simulation environments, as well as the simulation results, are described in the present document. |
